New Benefit for Employees: Free Flu Shot

With the approach of autumn, the management of Acquire Care are thinking about the benefits of flu vaccinations for their staff. As a new benefit, Acquire Care have decided to offer free flu vaccinations to all their employees. The flu vaccination is offered in the form of a jab. If any employee of Acquire Care is interested in taking up this offer, please contact Patrycja by September 29th 2017. There are several questions that must be answered before the flu jab is arranged. If one of the answers to the following questions (clinical exclusion criteria) is yes, then unfortunately the flu vaccination is not able to be offered to that person. The questions are:

  • Are you under 16 years old?
  • Are you allergic to eggs or latex? ( this is only applicable for vaccines that contain eggs or latex)
  • Have you had a reaction to a previous flu vaccination?
  • As far as you are aware, are you allergic to any of the constituents of the flu vaccine?

Flu vaccinations are available on the NHS to help protect adults and children at the risk of flu and its complications. Flu can be unpleasant and it is Acquire Care’s wish to protect both their employees and their clients from catching flu and suffering from its complications. The flu vaccination is the best protection that there is against an unpredictable virus that can cause unpleasant illness in children and severe illness and death among at-risk groups which include older people, pregnant women and those with an underlying medical health condition. There is also evidence that the flu jab can reduce the risk of having a stroke.

It should be remembered that, although the flu jab will help prevent someone from getting the flu, it will not stop all flu viruses and the level of protection can vary, so it’s not a 100% guarantee that someone having a flu jab will be flu-free but the vaccination should make them have a milder and shorter-lived case of flu than it would otherwise have been. As new flu vaccines are produced each year, people are advised to have the flu jab every year. The best time to have a flu vaccine is in the autumn, from the beginning of October to early November but can be given later in the winter if necessary.

Serious side effects are rare but the above questions must be answered truthfully to find out if there may be an allergy to the flu vaccine.
