Carers Week: 8th – 14th June 2020: Making Caring Visible

Many people are carers. They are all ages, both young and old. There are so many that it is good news that six well-known charities have come together to promote the needs of the carers themselves. Usually the emphasis is on the people needing care but these charities are trying to promote the needs of carers this week. The charities are:

If people need help to live at home, the first people they often turn to are their friends or family. This year, due to the pandemic and lock down, many people are asking for and getting more help than usual. Throughout the country, husbands, wives, sons, daughters, friends and neighbours have become carers to help a loved one or a friend in need. Often, someone has a sudden problem or an accident and calls on a close relative or friend to help. Maybe a child is born with a disability that the parents have to cope with – there is no set pattern or reason why someone becomes a carer. Sometimes the caring starts with doing the shopping, collecting a prescription or helping with preparing meals and then the caring increases when more help is needed.

Caring can be very satisfying and fulfilling. Often the carer is surprised at how well they cope but sometimes, the carer can also become needing help themselves. It has been found that, without the right support, being a carer can have a huge impact on some people. Caring in these circumstances can lead to the ill health of the carer, poverty and social isolation. By helping the carers get the help and support they themselves need, the people they are caring for also receive the help they need.

Sometimes the carers find it so difficult that a professional team is called in to help. This is when Acquire Care could help.  Some people need more than the occasional acts of kindness on offer. They might need a lot of help to stay in their own homes. If you know someone who is finding it difficult to live in their own home and feel that it would be nice to have a friendly person to help with the mundane everyday chores, then please contact Acquire Care Ltd.
