Our charity of the year – The Silver Line

We are proud to announce that in 2017 we are going to be supporting The Silver Line as our chosen charity.

This great organisation was founded in 2013 by Esther Rantzen, who after she was widowed wrote an article on the subject of loneliness.  This letter caused a wave of responses from people who found themselves in the same position. This provided the motivation for Esther to tackle this problem head on.

After an initial trial the charity has rolled out nationally with the help of Comic Relief and the Big Lottery Fund to be the only charity that provides 24 hour telephone support for the elderly.  The 3 main roles The Silver Line performs are:

• A sign-posting service to link them into the many, varied services that exist around the country
• A befriending service to combat loneliness
• A means of empowering those who may be suffering abuse and neglect, if appropriate to transfer them to specialist services to protect them from harm.

To start of our year of fundraising for The Silver Line, Steve Urwin, who is our freelance photographer, will be running the London Marathon.  We know he has already suffered from some pretty extreme blisters during his training so dig deep and help him smash his target!
