Cupcake Day: June 14th 2018
Cupcake Day is fast approaching – will you be ready when it arrives? The Alzheimer’s Society is organising Cupcake Day across the U.K on June 14th. The aim is to raise lots of ‘dough’ to help beat dementia. The staff of Acquire Care have signed up to host a fundraising event. A free fundraising kit has already been received in the post and they are all set to start baking.
Dementia causes huge problems in people’s lives and a cure is desperately needed. The Alzheimer’s Society is ready to help anyone who is affected by dementia but they would love your help to find new treatments and ideally a cure for this dreadful condition. That would be the icing on the cake!
The word ‘dementia’ is used for a range of symptoms that may include memory loss or difficulties with thinking, problem–solving or words. Although these changes may be small at the start, they can affect a person’s everyday routine and even change their behaviour or moods. The cause of dementia can vary but the brain becomes damaged. The symptoms that a dementia sufferer experiences depends on which part of their brain is affected and which disease is causing the dementia. Alzheimer’s Disease is the most common cause of dementia but not the only one.
Although there is no cure for dementia at the moment, scientists and researchers are working hard to find one. There are various supports and treatments available that help with the symptoms including different drugs. This is why it is important to visit a GP as soon as it seems there is a problem. Some of the drugs can allow people with dementia to lead active and more independent lives. Keeping as active as possible is also very important as this can improve memory, self-esteem and avoid depression. It may also help to talk to someone at the National Dementia Helpline on 0300 222 11 22 for information, support or advice.
Meanwhile, forget about the diet and please support our fundraising on Cupcake Day. There will be a variety of luscious cupcakes to tempt your taste buds and whet your appetite for something delicious. You could treat your friends or family if we cannot tempt you!
