A big thank you

The cakes were baked and kettles had been boiled all over the United Kingdom.  It was the time when people began to rise to the challenge of making Friday September 29th 2017 the world’s biggest coffee morning. At Shotover Kilns, the staff at Acquire Care had invited friends, family and clients to visit the office for a cake and chat over a cuppa in aid of MacMillan’s Cancer Support.  The charity asks people all over the UK to host coffee mornings and all donations and profits go to Macmillan. This year they are hoping that the final figure will be more than last year’s marvellous amount of £25 million. Acquire Care are thrilled to have raised £160.80 at their coffee morning. A big thank you to everyone who helped towards this.

Macmillan is a charity that helps and supports people affected by cancer. From the moment of being diagnosed, throughout the treatment and beyond, they aim to make life easier for patients and their families. Macmillan can give information and advice as well as support. It is Macmillan’s ambition to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer and inspire millions of others to do the same. Their research helps to understand the needs, numbers and experience of people affected by cancer, to develop and influence better care and services. They help to shape policies and work with the government to improve lives. A range of free courses, workshops and e-learning are available for people affected by cancer, including carers, family members, volunteers and community members.

There are many types of cancer treatments available including surgery or targeted therapies. Being told that cancer is the problem can be a huge shock. Anxiety and worry can be feelings experienced after being given the bad news. Doctors will explain the type of cancer that is the problem and what tests or treatment will be needed but Macmillan can give more information. There are more than 200 different types of cancer, each with its own name and treatment. Advice and support from Macmillan can make the decision of what to do, what to chose and what to prepare for so much easier. One in three people are or will be affected by cancer and more research into treatments and medicines is needed. This means more donations are wanted, more fundraising ideas thought of. This October, the fundraising challenge of Macmillan is ‘Go sober for October’. Can you rise to this challenge and help cancer patients and their families beat the illness? (and improve your health at the same time).
