Great British Care Awards: South East Region

Forget about the Great British Bake-offs – here at Acquire Care, we have been cheering on our colleague, Dot Cox, for the Great British Care Awards. Dot has been a member of Acquire Care’s office team for many years so we were thrilled to hear that she had been short-listed as a finalist for the South East Care Awards. It is great to be able to celebrate that a team member had been named as a regional finalist for such a prestigious award.

These awards are made up of a regional set of events throughout England and are a celebration of excellence across the care sector. The winners in each region go on to represent their area at the national Great British Care Awards event. The purpose of the awards is to acknowledge the people who have shown commitment and dedication as well as good practise within their field of care.

There are a total of twenty-one award categories so all the areas of the social care sector are represented – whether it is caring for older people or specialist services as well as residential and home care. The awards cover all the staff categories from care workers and care managers to training staff and specialists. The category that Dot has been successful in was the Care Assessor/ Care Planner category. This meant that Dot has had to demonstrate how important it is to produce correct individual initial assessment plans which then become the care plans that clients can approve and agree with. These care plans should show the individual needs, essential requirements and wishes of each client and should be specially written for every client. The successful candidates also had to demonstrate how they work with others in the team to ensure that the client is happy and satisfied with the services supplied. During the interview, they then had to explain how important regular reviews of the care plans are along with continuity of staff delivering helpful, friendly care.

Dot was interviewed for this great award in October. This took place at Brighton. We then had to wait for the announcement of the winners. This happened on November 3rd 2018, again in Brighton. Several of the team went with Dot to hear the result and all had a great evening. Dot came second in her category and we all congratulate her for doing so well. We are all proud of you, Dot.
