Free Flu Vaccinations For Social Care Employees and Others Again This Year

Once again, it’s time to think about having a flu vaccination, especially if you work with elderly or vulnerable people. According to the NHS, flu is an unpredictable virus that can be very unpleasant. Whilst people who are generally healthy usually have no problem getting over flu, it can cause serious illness and even death for vulnerable groups. These include older and elderly people, pregnant women and people with an underlying health condition. For more information, please visit www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/who-should-have-flu-vaccine.

The good news this year is that the NHS is again offering a free flu vaccine to those people who are a frontline health or social care worker at a registered residential care or nursing home, registered homecare organisation or a hospice. Other people also qualify for free flu injections. These include anyone over the age of 65 years or have certain health problems. Therefore, if you think you qualify for this, please contact your doctor or surgery about having a free flu vaccination. Children are also eligible for an annual flu vaccination.

If you have been thinking about having the flu vaccine but have not yet done so, then may we suggest that you take up this offer and have the flu jab? By having the flu jab, you will not only be looking after your own health but also protecting a vulnerable person from an unnecessary illness. You may even help stop a flu epidemic happening!

According to www.nhs.uk, the best time to visit a doctor to receive the flu vaccine is at the beginning of October to the end of November, so there is still time! However, do not worry if you miss this time period as you can still have the injection later on in the year.
