Christmas Jumper Day 2019

On December 13th the office staff at Acquire Care Ltd. arrived to work dressed in all their fun Christmas finery – it was Christmas Jumper Day. In exchange for items to donate to the local food bank, the usual dress code was put on hold for the day. The total donations were given to the Community Emergency Foodbank (CEF) Oxford at St Francis Church. CEF Oxford is a charity that supplies food via three food banks. These food banks are at:

  • Sir Francis Church, Hollow Way. OX3 7JP: Tuesdays and Fridays 12 noon – 2pm
  • Littlemore Baptist Church, Edith Kempston House, Chapel Lane, Littlemore. OX4 4QB: Thursdays between 10am – 11.30pm
  • Barton Community Church, The Neighbourhood Centre, Underhill Circus. OX3 9LS: Mondays and Wednesdays 12 noon – 2pm

The food banks will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day though.

According to the CEF website many people are going hungry through debt, sickness, sudden job loss, addiction, marriage breakdown or simply through delays in receiving benefits. By operating the foodbanks, CEF Oxford are helping these people. The warehouse stocks are maintained through the generous support of church congregations, supermarket donation boxes and business or individual giving.

It is not possible to self-refer yourself at the food banks. Those in need of help are referred by GPs, Health visitors, CAB, clergy, community workers etc – any professionals who are likely to come into contact with people with real need. The aim is to help people through a crisis and so there is a limit of about three parcel collections per person/family in any twelve month period. It should also be noted that only people who have access to cooking facilities can be helped.

When the sessions are open, tea, coffee and snacks are on offer at the centres. There is also the opportunity to talk to someone if people would like to do this before collecting the provisions. Every Friday, there is a representative from the Citizen Advice Bureau who can give practical advice and support to people coming for food.

Christmas is a time for festive celebration. However, many people need help and support during this period. If a friend or relative needs help to stay in their own home this Christmas or in 2020, then please contact Acquire Care Ltd. to see how they can help. The Company can provide both live-in care and hourly care in Oxford and around the surrounding area. Acquire Care should be able to help to make your friend’s or relative’s Christmas or New Year a happier one. Many people do not like to ask for help but our helpful, friendly carers can support people who need help to stay in their own homes. This can be from short home care visits or full-time care when one of our carers live in the Client’s home with them.
