Alzheimer’s disease and live-in care

Alzheimer’s disease is one of the most common types of dementia. Dementia is the term normally used when a person’s brain no longer functions properly and there are problems with a person’s memory, thinking and behaviour. As with most dementia, Alzheimer’s disease symptoms are often minimal at the start of the disease but then the symptoms become more pronounced as the brain becomes more damaged. At the moment, there are no cures for the disease but medication is available that can temporarily reduce some of the symptoms or slow down the progression of the disease in many people. However there is also support available to help someone cope with everyday life and can include the provision of a live-in carer. It must be remembered that whilst many people have trouble with their memory, it does not mean that they have Alzheimer’s disease. Acquire Care Ltd. can provide live-in care for people who have Alzheimer’s disease. Acquire Care can also support many other conditions to enable people to continue living at home.

If a relative is diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, their health and social care needs should be assessed and plans made for the future. Whilst a live-in care plan sounds worrying, it is a way of ensuring that the right treatment is given and also involves seeing when and where assistance is needed.

As well as memory loss, the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease can include:

  • Completing jobs with difficulty that were once easy to do
  • Having difficulty solving problems
  • Having trouble with the written or spoken word
  • Confusion about places, people and events
  • Personality or mood changes
  • Withdrawing from friends and family

As Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive disease, help and extra care is usually increased as the disease becomes more advanced. Many people believe that it is best and more beneficial if someone with Alzheimer’s disease stay in their own home. This is where Acquire Care Ltd. and their Live-in team can help. By keeping the familiar home routine and environment the same, it will make a huge difference to someone’s quality of life.

Acquire Care Ltd. can arrange and supply a special live-in care package for someone who needs help to stay in her/his own home. The live-in care plan will be tailored to suit the client and will be reassessed as the memory declines or when more help is needed to do various tasks. If it is wished, staff can help to create memory boxes or scrapbooks that include photographs and memories of loved ones or moments that will help to stimulate the memory and combat the effects of Alzheimer’s disease.

Help can be provided to do various tasks around the house, such as cleaning, dusting, cooking or providing companionship. As our carers are trained and compassionate, they can help when needed. If you would like to discuss the possibility of having live-in care for a loved member of your family, please contact Acquire Care Ltd on 01865 601010 or email info@acquirecare.co.uk to speak to a helpful and friendly member of our team.
